Population

For the year 2013, the projected population of Batangas City based from CY 2010 POPCEN of the National Statistics Office (NSO) is 325,532 with a population growth rate of 2.13%. Brgy. Sta. Rita Karsada has the biggest population with 18,460 while Barangay 17, an urban barangay has the smallest population of 111.

 

Male – Female Ratio

The average ratio of male to female population of the whole city is 0.99:1.00 with the female population slightly higher. Out of the 105 barangays, 51 barangays have higher male population, 54 barangays have higher female population and two barangays, Malitam and Mahacot Silangan has equal male female population.

 

Population Density

With a land area of approximately 28,541.44 hectares and a total population of 318,750, the city has a population density of 11.17 persons per hectare or 1,117 persons per square kilometer. The population density of the entire city is far below the population density of the poblacion which is 170 persons per hectare.

 

Urban – Rural Distribution

In addition to the 24 barangays in the Poblacion are the 17 urbanizing barangays, namely, Alangilan, Balagtas, Bolbok, Calicanto, Cuta, Gulod Itaas, Gulod Labac, Kumintang Ibaba, Kumintang Ilaya, Libjo, Malitam, Pallocan Kanluran, San Isidro, Sta. Clara, Sta. Rita Aplaya, Sta. Rita Karsada and Wawa. These barangays are situated within the immediate periphery of the poblacion. Urban population is 179,565 rural population is 145,967 representing 55% and 45% respectively of the total city population.

Household Characteristics

Batangas City has total projected households of 71,511 for CY 2013. Out of this figure, 5,838 or 8.16% reside in the poblacion. The projected average household size in the city for CY 2013 is five (5). Barangay Sta. Rita Karsada has the highest household number of 3,992 while Barangay 16 in the Poblacion has the lowest household number of 29.

 

Average Income/Expenditure Per Household

Based on the final results of the CY 2009 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) by the National Statistics Office, the average income per household is P219,272.00 per annum or P18,273.00 per month while the average expenditure per household is P182,600.00 per annum or P15,217.00 per month based at the current prices.

 

Civil Registration Statistics

Birth and Death

As per the record of the Office of the City Civil Registrar, a total of 8,439 babies were born and 2,777 persons died in CY 2013. Statistics showed that in both birth and death registries, the males have always the higher number. In the case of fetal death, out of 54 fetal deaths, male were 33 and female 21. For all age bracket ages 0 to 80, male death is dominant over the female with a total of 1,480 or 91.64%. Age bracket of 81 to 110, female has the highest number of death with the total of 251 or 22%.

 

 

Fertility Rate

Life Expectancy at Birth

As of year 2000, the estimated life expectancy at birth for most Batangas City residents is 66 years for male and 73 years for female.

 

Marriage

Total marriages in CY 2013 were 1,792. Of this number, church weddings were 1,045 and civil weddings were 747. With this figure, it only shows that majority of the BatangueƱos still believe in the sanctity of marriage.
