HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL DATA OF DUMANTAY

The regular name of the barrio Dumantay existed since the time of the Spanish Colonization and still the name exist without being changed. The name Dumantay is after the name of the person whose surname is Dumantay that once lived in the barrio in the early part of the Spanish time. There are two sitios in Dumantay which are the "Pulong Ilaya" and “Pulong Ibaba" which are situated in the North and in the South of Dumantay.

Dumantay existed since the early part of the Spanish time in the year 1000. There are about five families during the early part namely the Gutierrez clan, Gertes clan, Ramos clan, and Atienza clan. The pass teniente del barrio are: Jose Agtay, Antonio Gutierrez, Modesto Gutierrez, Tiburcio Agtay, Constancio Villena, Melecio Osio, Leon Gutierrez and Macario Atienza.

During the Spanish time there were people trusted to look upon the barrio which were the Cabizas. One ofthe Cabizas was Protacio Osio. Selection of officials that time did not place people in danger.

During the Japanese time, officials of the barrio did not have full cooperation with the government. Democracy was hampered by the Japanese people. The Japanese have the sole power and every decision of the people were not carried out. Progress was put down during the time. There was no education in the barrio. People don't like to work so much because they gained nothing from the Japanese just get what they raised. Industries were put down during the time.

The population of Dumantay was few since the beginning of its existence. Although the people were few they were hard-working people. They cultivated the land and raised good products. The product rose were rice and fruit bearing plants. Such fruits bearing plant were mangoes, atis, and langka or jackfruit. Aside from raising plants they raised poultry and swine which helped in making the place a progressive one. Dumantay is a little beat rough in structure but there is no river. Source of water is very hard for the people.

The people of Dumantay are hospitable. They have the feeling of "Bayanihan" that the people are cooperative. Whoever needs aims people are very willing to share something to help those who are in need. The people are also religious, facts can be seen during the Flores de Mayo, people hear mass during the fiestas. People are happy and have the appreciation of leisure. During summer people go to picnics by the seashore, going on pilgrimage to Antipolo or to other places. They go on excursion and other appreciative places. People are also honest and can be trusted by other people. In politics they are very careful in choosing their candidates.
