Population

For the year 2023, the projected total population of Batangas City based on 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) is 370,298. Males accounted for 50.47 % (186,897) of the total population, while female comprised the remaining 49.53% (183,401).

Out of the city’s total population, the household population comprised 99.32% or 367,793 individuals. By age group, 105,621 or 28.72% were under 15 years of age (young dependents) while 15 to 64 years (working age or economically active population) totaled to 243,327 or 66.16%. Those in the age group 65 years old and over (old dependents) comprised the remaining 18,845 or 5.12%.

 

Among the barangays of the city, the largest in terms of population size is Sta. Rita Karsada with 20,516 persons. It was followed by Alangilan, with 16,815 , Bolbok with 14,896, Sta. Clara with 13,696 persons, and Libjo with 13,684 persons. (see Figure 2)

Sex Ratio

The sex ratio in the city was computed at 101 in 2023. This implies that there were 101 males for every 100 females. Children below 15 years of age had a sex ratio of 109 males for every 100 females, while those aged 15-64 years old had a sex ratio of 101 males for every 100 females. On the other hand, those aged 65 years old and over had a sex ratio of 95 males for every 100 females. This implies a longer life expectancy among females than males in the older age group or a higher mortality rate among males.


Population Density

With a land area of approximately 28,541.44 hectares and a total population of 370,298, the city has a population density of 13 persons per hectare or 1,278 persons per square kilometer.


Urban-Rural Distribution

In addition to the 24 barangays in the Poblacion are the 24 urbanizing barangays, namely, Alangilan, Balagtas, Banaba South, Bolbok, Calicanto, Cuta, Gulod Itaas, Gulod Labac, Ilijan, Kumintang Ibaba, Kumintang Ilaya, Libjo, Mahabang Parang, Malitam, Pallocan Kanluran, Pallocan Silangan, Sampaga, San Isidro, Sorosoro Karsada, Sta. Clara, Sta. Rita Aplaya, Sta. Rita Karsada, Tinga Labac and Wawa. These barangays are situated within the immediate periphery of the poblacion.

The urban population is 230,465 while the rural population is 139,833 representing 62.24% and 37.76% respectively of the total city population.


Household Characteristics

Batangas City has a total projected household of 87,547 for CY 2023. Out of this figure, 4,923 or 5.62% reside in the poblacion. The projected average household size in the city is four (4). Barangay Sta. Rita Karsada has the highest household number of 5,160 while barangay 15 in the Poblacion has the lowest household number of 31.


Average Income/Expenditure Per Household

Based on the final results of the CY 2015 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) by the Philippine Statistics Authority, for the province of Batangas, the average income per household is P267,000.00 per annum or P22,250.00 per month while the average expenditure per household is P215,000.00 per annum or P17,916.66.00 per month based on the current prices.

 

 

Civil Registration Statistics

Birth and Death

As per the record of the Office of the City Civil Registrar, a total of 7,181 babies were born and 5,106 persons died in CY 2023. Out of the 7,181 babies, 3,866 were residents of the city while 3,315 were non-residents. Of the 5,106 persons who died, 2,297 were resident of the city and 2,809 persons are non-residents (see Table 9). Fetal death of City residents totaled 26, 13 males and 26 females (see Table 10). In comparison to the last year’s data, it has declined to 52% from total of 90, 53 males and 37 females.

Male deaths are dominant from ages 0-80 over females with a total of 2,831 or 61.41% for non-residents and residents of the city while for city residents only a total of 1,161 deaths or 61.43%. For ages 81 and above females’ deaths are dominant both in non-resident and resident of the city with a total of 320 deaths or 64.52% for non-residents and residents, and 265 deaths or 65.11% deaths for city residents only.

 

Fertility Rate

Based on the preliminary results of the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), the total fertility rate1 (TFR) of Filipino women aged 15 to 49 years declined from 2.7 children per woman in 2017 to 1.9 children per woman in 2022. Hence, the Philippines is already below the replacement fertility level of 2.1 children per woman. By area of residence, women living in rural areas had slightly higher TFR of 2.2 children per woman as compared to women living in urban areas with 1.7 children per woman

 

Life Expectancy at Birth

As of year, 2015, the estimated life expectancy at birth for most Batangas Province residents is 70.28 years for male and 76.75 years for female.

 

Marriage

Total marriages in CY 2023 were 1,414 for residents and non-residents. Among the months January exhibit the most number of marriage which totaled to 184 and the least number was recorded for the month of August with 72 marriages. Church weddings totaled to 868 and civil weddings were 574. (See Table 15). Marriages to foreigner was recorded at 17 total of which all are groom.
