BATANGAS CITY-Nakalaang magbigay ng technical assistance ang United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sa mga industriya at commercial establishments sa Batangas City sa pagsasagawa ng kanilang Organizational Greenhouse Gass (GHG) Inventory at Energy Audit and Process upang ang mga ito ay makapagbalangkas ng mga hakbang para mabawasan ang kanilang carbon emission at maging cost-efficient ang kanilang operasyon.
Ito ay bahagi ng proyektong IMPACT: Pathways to Building Low Emission Division Strategies na magkatuwang na inilunsad ng USAID, City Environment and Natural Resources Office at Metro Batanngas Business Club noong April 22 sa Pontefino Hotel.
Ayon kay Marina Mallare, technical consultant for GHG Inventory, USAID B-LEADERS, ang pagdami ng emission ng GHG o carbon dioxide ay nagbubunga ng ibayong global warming na nagdudulot ng “extreme weather conditions” kagaya ng mas malakas na bagyo, El Nino phenomenon at pagbaha.
Binigyang diin niya na dapat mabawasan ng business sector ang kanilang carbon footprints hindi lamang upang makatulong sa paglaban sa climate change kundi upang magkaroon ng sustainable economic development. The business establishments “ have to be energy-efficient to reduce energy costs, improve productivity, improve competitiveness and have better resource utilization.”
Dahilan sa “you cannot manage what you do not measure”, ang unang mahalagang hakbang aniya upang ma manage ang GHG emissions ay sa pamamagitan ng GHG Inventory Process upang malaman ang dami ng carbon dioxide emission.
Sinabi rin na ang GHG inventory ay isang magandang marketing strategy sapagkat nalalaman ng publiko , mga stockholders at stakeholders ang ginagawa ng isang negosyo upang maging ecologically- friendly. Sa ganitong paraan, nakakatulong din sila sa pagpapalawak ng public awareness sa kahalagahan ng pakikiisa sa global action laban sa climate change.
Ang methodology at process ng GHG accounting ay base sa World Resources Institute at World for Sustainable Development Business Council.
Tinalakay naman ni Anna Dominique Ortiz, Special Activities Fund Technical Lead, USAID-B-LEADERS, ang Energy Audit and Process kung saan inaalam ang mga pamamaraan ng paggamit ng energy ng mga business establishments.
Ang mga business establishments na nais sumailalim sa GHG inventory ay kailangan lamang magparehistro habang ang mga nais magkaroon ng energy audit ay kailangang magsumite ng accomplished Energy Audit Worksheet ng USAID hanggang May 10 o kaya ay makipag ugnayan sa tanggapan ng City ENRO.(PIO Batangas City)
