Batangas City nakikiisa sa 18-day Campaign to End VAW

BATANGAS CITY- Pinangunahan ni Mayor Beverley Rose Dimacuha, Board Member Claudette Ambida at Councilor Aileen Arriola at ng Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) ang pakikiisa ng Batangas City sa 18-day Campaign to End Violence against Women mula Nov. 25-December 12 sa pamamagitan ng maramihang sayaw sa Plaza Mabini.
Ang pagsasayaw na ito ang isang pamamaraan ng mga kababaihan sa lungsod na mapalawak ang public awareness na labanan ang anumang karahasan at pang-aabuso laban sa mga kababaihan. Dapat ding ipakita ang lakas at kaalaman ng mga kababaihan na ipagtanggol ang kanilang karapatan at ang kanilang dignidad laban sa karahasan na siyang tema ng kampanyang ito “VAW-free community starts with me”.
Ang violence against women (VAW) ay maaring physical, sexual, mental, emotional o economic kasama na ang pananakot, pwersa o “arbitrary deprivation of liberty” maging ito ay nangyayari sa pribado o publikong buhay. Ang kaparusahan dito ay nakapaloob sa Repubic Act 9262 o Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004.
Ayon sa Women and Children’s Desk ng Batangas City Police, mayroong 20 kaso ng violence against women na naitala mula January-November 25 ng taong ito kung saan 12 ay emotional abuse, pito ang physical at isa ang sexual.
Bahagi rin ng public awareness campaign ang pagsabit ng tarpaulin tungkol sa VAW sa mga conspicuous places.
Bumibisita naman sa mga barangay at paaralan ang City Social Welfare and Development Office kasama ang Kalipi Federation at Batangas City PNP Women and Children's Protection Desk upang magsagawa ng lecture patungkol sa RA 9262. Ang CSWDO, Police Women’s Desk at ang barangay official’s ang pwedeng lapitan ng mga kababahang nakakaranas ng kaharasan upang mailigtas sila sa ganitong sitwasyon.
Bukod sa KALIPI, ang isa pang samahan na lumalaban sa VAW ay ang Men Opposed to VAW Everywhere (MOVE). (PIO Batangas City)
